A Field-Guided Experience in Vermont Geology with Paul Myers
When:
Sunday, Oct 25, 2009
Details:
WHERE: Manchester, VT
This is an outdoor workshop led by geologist Paul Myers. Paul will assist participants to recognize igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks in the field. We will learn how geologic maps are made and how to "read" them. Paul will demonstrate how geologists do field work and how you can make your own interpretations of geologic history.
We will meet at the Northshire Bookstore parking lot at the intersection of routes 11 and 30 in Manchester, VT. From there we will carpool to selected sites for moderate hikes to study the local landscape features and rock formations. One of the field sites is Prospect Rock, a 1-hour uphill trail walk from Manchester valley. Handouts will be provided; hence a clipboard and a rain-proof plastic bag will come in handy if it rains. Dress warmly, wear sturdy hiking boots, bring a camera and lunch too.
